Since joining PAUS in 1997 as a junior consultant, I have had the privilege of witnessing PAUS grow—not only in membership but also in reach and influence. This growth is evident each year at our Annual Conference (PAUS annual), and it was particularly clear at this year’s well-attended PAUS Meeting held at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad. In Islamabad, I assumed the presidency, and I am honoured and privileged to have this opportunity. In my inaugural speech, I outlined the direction and approach for the coming years.
There are many professional organisations that we can join as urologists, and we are grateful that each of you has chosen to join PAUS. At PAUS, we remain dedicated to fostering the professional growth and success of every member through ongoing professional development and mentorship opportunities.
Our core mission is to support both men and women in urology through meaningful networking, resources, and professional development. Our flagship event remains the Annual Conference. The 25th Annual Conference will be held from 7 to 9 November 2025 in Lahore. This year’s conference will be our silver jubilee meeting, PAUS ’25. I mentioned in my inaugural address the importance of maintaining PAUS as a vibrant organisation active throughout the year. We are organising various engagements, including regional meetings on sub-specialty topics, which broaden the association's horizons regionally and internationally, keeping our residents involved and integrated into the mainstream.
PAUS is an active participant in the South Asian Association of Urological Surgeons. Incidentally, I am also the current president of SAUS. It has been active within the EAU, and we hold regular meetings during the annual EAU congress. More recently, we had a productive discussion with the SIU, and we are now eligible for SIU group membership. This initiative may also pave the way for future collaborations, such as a dedicated SIU-PAUS joint chapter meeting at the congress, an important milestone and a notable achievement for Pakistan.
PAUS remains dedicated to increasing its members' representation in leadership roles within urology and encouraging professional development for all members. We have recently added three new chapters in Pakistan to our expanding PAUS membership. Additionally, for the first time, we have included an international chapter of Pakistani urologists working in the Middle East as part of the diaspora.
I am honoured to serve as your president for the next two years and look forward to collaborating with each of you to further our mission. Effective communication and member engagement today require active social and academic media interaction. PAUS is modernising and upgrading its website, creating innovative methods of communication. We are also working on revitalising the PAUS directory. Urology residents will soon have access to a PAUS-resident membership, along with many new and innovative ways to engage.
